. . . to name the unnamable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it from going to sleep.  Salman Rushdie
All our books are printed in the U.S. by small, independently owned printing companies, never POD
Do you love books? Not content, not reflowable digital data — books. With covers, and pages, and spines; books you can immerse yourself in by turning pages and inhaling the scent of paper. You do? Come closer. We publish books. Novels, to be exact. Novels that blow up boundaries of genres and formulas and keep you guessing and turning pages until the end you didn’t see coming. Funny novels. Sometimes bittersweet, but always with a chuckle.
A fiercely independent boutique press, we use our years of experience in Big Publishing to not only set new standards of design and craftsmanship for print books produced by small presses, but to evoke the best of the Golden Age of publishing, when savvy editors nurtured new authors and shaped and refined books hands-on, more intrigued by the unique story than by its short-term mass appeal. At ENC Press, we don’t have “target audiences” or “demographics.” We have readers. A target audience buys hundreds of thousands of copies. A demographic — millions. A reader might buy one or two books. Then one or two more. We love readers, and our books are not copies. We don’t do things the way “everyone else” does. One size never fits all. It may seem counterintuitive, but we have no shareholders and no bosses. We do not get entangled with huge bookstore chains’ and online omni-merchants’ economically ruinous distribution deals that would force us to compromise the quality and longevity of our books. We distribute through our own Web site and a few independent bookstores. What this means is that we have no immediate profit pressures to determine our editorial choices. Our only criteria is, do we love this book enough to commit to it for the long haul? We keep our books in print until you discover the ones you will fall in love with. The ones that will keep you away from binge-watching the next — admittedly, very good — streaming original. The ones that are worth the wait.
Covers may vary slightly from the ones pictured on the website.
