ANDREW HOOK is an established
writer in the UK independent press with over forty
short stories published in a variety of genres.
Equally at home with writing speculative or straight
fiction, Andrew refuses to be stymied or compartmentalised
by marketplace considerations, believing that to
write the story as it comes is a much more honest
way to make a living (even if it’s not much of a living).
A collection of his slipstream fiction, The Virtual
Menagerie, was nominated for best collection
in the 2003 British Fantasy Society Awards. Out of all the reviews he prefers the one by fellow UK writer
Dave Price — “Enigmatic, dark, occasionally
amusing, occasionally sad, quite often infuriating,
but always classy. The Virtual Menagerie
is highly recommended” — because the reviewer penetrated through the fiction and into
the man. Andrew also believes it’s of vital importance to
be self-deprecating, and to never take life seriously,
which is the reason he launched The Virtual Menagerie
wearing a sheep mask.
Andrew is a founder and publisher
of Elastic Press, a small independent U.K. press that publishes
anthologies of short stories “at
the edges of reality and fantasy” and has
won 2005 British Fantasy Society awards for Best
Small Press and Best Anthology.
Moon Beaver is his
first published novel.
